WINEMAKER: DAVID JEFFREY
For the love of old world, classically styled wines. Calluna wines come from the 17-acre estate in the Chalk Hill appellation, right in the middle of Sonoma County on a gorgeous hilltop. Planted in 2005, after a strong determination to make a dream reality, David takes great pride in living among the vines with his family and making the wines himself.
A conversation led to a meeting, which led to a visit to the gorgeous hilltop estate in Windsor. Winding up the road, seeing the scares on the land from previous fire years, we were left speechless. David’s welcoming nature and tour of the estate were impactful – just as sharing the wine and stories together, it was a great match. We are honored to have these wines and stories to now share with you.
2018 Estate Blanc
From a 2.5 acre block on a northeastern slope, the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon showcase bright acidity with great depth of flavor with moderate alcohol. These varietals compliment each other as the rounder and honey-like tones of the Semillon are a counterpoint to the citrus, mineral sharper tones of the Sauvignon Blanc. The barrel fermentation and barrel aging further harmonizes the wine, a graceful bottle to have at the table now or potentially age for many years.
2016 Calluna Vineyards Cuvée (CVC)
A true expression of the appellation it grows in, where great sunlight and a cool climate produces intense fruit in a wine with balancing acidity, round tannins and moderate alcohol levels. The blend expresses the power of Cabernet Sauvignon, elegance of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a bit of showiness from Malbec and Petit Verdot.
